Diagnosis
After referral by your general practitioner or dentist, it will be assessed during the first consultation whether additional examinations are necessary. Examples of these examinations include:
- A CT scan
- An ultrasound (with biopsy/puncture)
- An MRI scan
Treatment of salivary gland disorders
Surgical removal of one of the three major salivary glands is performed under general anesthesia. The duration and risks of the procedure differ depending on the gland and the indication for surgery. In almost all cases, you can return home the day after the operation.
Before the surgery, I will discuss with you the indication for the operation, how the procedure will be performed, the possible risks, and the course of recovery afterward. Depending on the final diagnosis of the salivary gland condition, long-term outpatient follow-up may be necessary.
